RICHARD'S FUNERAL

Novena to the Holy Ghost - First Day

Thou, of all consolers best,

Visiting the troubled breast,

Dost refreshing peace bestow.

The Gift of Piety

The gift of Piety begets in our hearts a filial affection for God as our most loving Father. It inspires us to love and respect for His sake persons and things consecrated to Him, as well as those who are vested with His authority, His Blessed Mother and the Saints, the Church and its visible Head, our parents and superiors, our country and its rulers. He who is filled with the gift of Piety finds the practice of his religion, not a burdensome duty, but a delightful service. Where there is love, there is no labor.

Prayer

Come, O Blessed Spirit of Piety, possess my heart. Enkindle therein such a love for God, that I may find satisfaction only in His service, and for His sake lovingly submit to all legitimate authority. Amen.

Our Father and Hail Mary ONCE.

Glory be to the Father SEVEN TIMES.

Novena to the Holy Ghost - Second Day

Come, Thou Father of the poor!

Come, with treasures which endure!

Come, Thou Light of all that live!

The Gift of Fear

The gift of Fear fills us with a sovereign respect for God, and makes us dread nothing so much as to offend Him by sin. It is a fear that arises, not from the thought of hell, but from sentiments of reverence and filial submission to our heavenly Father. It is the fear that is the beginning of wisdom, detaching us from worldly pleasures that could in any way separate us from God. "They that fear the Lord will prepare their hearts, and in His sight will sanctify their souls."

Prayer

Come, O blessed Spirit of Holy Fear, penetrate my inmost heart, that I may set Thee, my Lord and God, before my face forever; help me to shun all things that can offend Thee, and make me worthy to appear before the pure eyes of Thy Divine Majesty in heaven, where Thou livest and reignest in the unity of the ever Blessed Trinity, God world without end. Amen.

Our Father and Hail Mary ONCE.

Glory be to the Father SEVEN TIMES.

Holy Ghost! Lord of light!

From Thy clear celestial height,

Thy pure beaming radiance give!

The Holy Ghost

Only one thing is important -eternal salvation-. Only one thing, therefore, is to be feared-sin-. Sin is the result of ignorance, weakness, and indifference. The Holy Ghost is the Spirit of Light, of Strength, and of Love. With His sevenfold gifts He enlightens the mind, strengthens the will, and inflames the heart with love of God. To ensure our salvation we ought to invoke the Divine Spirit daily, for "The Spirit helpeth our infirmity. We know not what we should pray for as we ought. But the Spirit Himself asketh for us."

Prayer

Almighty and eternal God, Who hast vouchsafed to regenerate us by water and the Holy Ghost, and hast given us forgiveness of all sins, vouchsafe to send forth from heaven upon us Thy sevenfold Spirit, the Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding, the Spirit of Counsel and Fortitude, the Spirit of Knowledge and Piety, and fill us with the Spirit of Holy Fear. Amen.

Our Father and Hail Mary ONCE.

Glory be to the Father SEVEN TIMES.

The St. Joseph Altar

In the middle ages there was a drought in Sicily. The people of Sicily turned to St. Joseph and asked him to stop the drought. St. Joseph answered their prayers and the famine ended, providing an abundance of foods, especially fava beans. The people ate them and survived. In gratitude, the prepared an altar with foods they had harvested, paying homage to St. Joseph for the favor granted. After ... they distributed the food to the less fortunate, a custom that is still practiced today on St. Joseph's Feast Day. The fava bean, serves as a token of the altar, a reminder of God's provisions through the intercession of St. Joseph.

                                                         Teach us, St. Joseph

How to be "non-protagonist"
How to move forward without trampling on others,
How to help without imposing our will,
How to love without complaining
How to obey without protest
How to keep fighting when all seems hopeless

                                                                       Tell us, St. Joseph

How to live being the "number two",
How to do admirable things
from a second position.
How to serve without looking at whom
How to expect without doubting
How to die to self
How close our eyes, just like you,
in the arms of a good death

                                                                 Explain to us St. Joseph

How to be great without being proud,
How to fight without wishing applause,
How to illuminate without dazzling
How to persevere and die
without hope of a posthumous tribute
How to reach glory from silence
How to be faithful without getting angry with heaven.
Tell us, dear Father St. Joseph.

Requiescat in pace Mr. Lee LeBlanc

Specific aim of the Society of the Holy Ghost

The secondary and specific aim of the Society of the Holy Ghost is to undertake ministry for which the Church has difficulty in finding labourers.
Today we believe that aim is fulfilled by any means which conform to the demands of the Traditional Catholic Apostolate in order to preserve the Faith during this time of post-Vatican II auto-destruction of the Catholic Church.

In order to ensure the sanctification of its members and to prepare them more effectively for the Traditional Catholic Apostolate the Society requires its members to profess the Vows of Religion.
Thus, the Society of the Holy Ghost is a Religious Community of men. We profess the vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. We live a common life as brothers in accord with our Rules and Constituions. We allow members to be ordained to the Priesthood. We are engaged in the active apostolate primarly by serving the pastoral needs of the Lay Faithful who come to the Chapel of our Friary.

Stations of the Cross - All Fridays during lent followed by the Holy Mass

Quinquagesima Sunday

Lord, make me an instrument of thy Peace

"Lord, make me an instrument of thy Peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow Love;
Where there is injury, Pardon;
Where there is doubt, Faith;
Where there is error, True;
Where there is despair, Hope;
Where there is darkness, Light;
Where there is sadness, Joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console,
To be understood as to understand,
To be loved as to love;
For:

It is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
It is in dying to self that we are born to Eternal Life."

"Señor, hazme un instrumento de Tu Paz .
Donde hay odio, que lleve yo el Amor;
Donde haya ofensa, que lleve yo el Perdón;
Donde haya duda, que lleve yo la Fe;
Donde haya error, que lleve yo la Verdad;
Donde haya desesperación, que lleve yo la Esperanza;
Donde haya tinieblas, que lleve yo la Luz;

Donde haya tristeza, que lleve yo Alegría.
Oh, Maestro, haced que yo no busque tanto

ser consolado, sino consolar;
ser comprendido, sino comprender;
ser amado, como amar.
Porque:

Es dando, que se recibe;
Perdonando, que se es perdonado;
Muriendo, que se resucita a la Vida Eterna."

"Signore, fa di me uno strumento della tua Pace.
dove è odio, fa ch'io porti Amore;
dove è offesa, ch'io porti il Perdono;
dove è dubida, ch'io porti la Fede;
dove è l'errore, ch'io porti la Verità;
dove è la disperazione, ch'io porti la Speranza;
dove sono le tenebre, ch'io porti la Luce;

Dove è tristezza, ch'io porti la Gioia.
Oh! Maestro, fa che io non cerchi tanto:
Ad essere compreso, quanto a comprendere.
Ad essere amato, quanto ad amare
Poichè:

Se è dando, che si riceve:
Perdonando che si è perdonati;
Morendo che si risuscita a Vita Eterna."

"Senhor, fazei-me instrumento de vossa Paz
Onde houver ódio, que eu leve o Amor;
Onde houver ofensa, que eu leve o Perdão;
Onde houver dúvida, que eu leve a Fé;
Onde houver erro, que eu leve a Verdade;
Onde houver desespero, que eu leve a Esperança:
Onde houver trevas, que eu leve a Luz;

Onde houver tristeza, que eu leve a Alegria;
Ó mestre, fazei que eu procure mais:

Consolar que ser consolado
Compreender que ser compreendido
Amar que ser amado.
Pois:

É dando que se recebe;
É perdoando que se é perdoado;
E é morrendo que se vive para a Vida Eterna."

Veni Sancte Spiritus

Office of Prime

The Society of the Holy Ghost is a Religious Institute, a Community of Priests and Brothers, dedicated to the Apostolate. Its first and general object is to procure the glory of God and the sanctification of its members. Thus, this morning, the public Chapel (St. Philomena Chapel) opened at 7:00 a.m. The Office of Prime (Morning Prayer) was chanted at 7:05 a.m., followed by private prayer concluding with a Prayer to the Holy Ghost, which is the Sequence from the Mass of Pentecost. Holy Mass followed at 7:45 a.m. Prime, or the First Hour, is a fixed time of prayer of the traditional Divine Office (Canonical Hours), said at the first hour of daylight  between the morning Hour of Lauds and the Hour of Terce.

This short office is one of those whose origin is best known. Saint John Cassian, speaking of Prime, says expressly "sciendum . . . hanc matitutinam canonicam functionem nostro tempore in nostro quoque monasterio primitus institutam." ("it is to be known . . . this morning canonical function [i.e. Prime] was first instituted in our time and in our monastery")

All are welcome to attend the Conventual Mass. And, as we have two priests, the second priest offers a private Mass at this same time. After Holy Mass, the Novena Prayer to St. Philomena was said, Grand Silence ended and breakfast eaten.
